So let's chat for a bit about that term, real estate.  It is an all encompassing phrase tossed about all the time in casual conversations, boardrooms and all levels of government.  But what is it really?  Well, it is defined as a parcel of land and any improvement thereon.  But along with that goes the rights and freedoms of ownership, the ability to enjoy that land unencumbered by nuisance of others.  Sounds pretty simple, right?  On a larger scale, It is a crucial and vital part of our economy and therefore given much weight in governmental policy, regulatory practices and financial portfolios.  How well the housing and real estate market is doing is linked tightly with the  trend of our economy.  (Anyone remember the US sub-prime mortgage crisis and subsequent financial market crash of 2008?  Anyone?  Anyone?  Bueller?). 

The exciting thing about the real estate market is that it is constantly changing.  So many factors affect the market; employment levels, interest rates, inflation, foreign investment, immigration rates, etc.   Much of the reporting about real estate lies heavily in statistics and boy, is there a lot of stats to be found in the real estate business!   As for those beloved statistics?  Well, we will help break those statistics down into small digestible chunks so that you can know in everyday language what they mean and how they affect you, the property owner (or future property owner!).

For most of us, buying a home is the largest purchase we will make in our lifefitme.  And that home will be the cornerstone of our individual investment portfolios.  For it IS an investment.  And like all investments, it needs to be managed.  

So in upcoming blog posts, you will find not only postings about the marketplace, statistics and how to interpret them, advice and information on buying or selling a property but also useful tips and information on different aspects of home ownership.  And most importantly, how to MAINTAIN and GROW the value of your most important investment, your home.
